New Format Trial
PDAA Club Championship
Sharcott Lake 2025-2026
Having been elected to the position of ‘Match Secretary for Sharcott Lake at this year’s AGM , I have pleasure in setting out my proposals for a revised format for the 2025 -2026 competition.
The months of April and May are ‘free’ dates and do not contribute to the formal competition. Therefore I would like to trial the following format , that will allow an opportunity to get feedback to take to the Club Committee prior to its formal
acceptance.
The intention is to try and level out the competition and see if we can tempt a few new competitors to this popular Club event.
Format
Maximum 14 entrants to be Club Members.
Based on a minimum of ten rounds , each held on the second Sunday of the month.
The lake pegging will be divided into two sections :-
A section …pegs 1 to 8. ( pegs one and two combined )
B section …pegs 9 to 16. ( pegs 15 and sixteen combined )
Points awarded on each section from max 7 points for best weight, down to 1 point for the lowest weight with a requirement of at least one fish ‘weighed’ in to count for scoring.
From this format , a maximum of 70 points can be scored by an entrant over the ten rounds.
The ‘Champion ‘will be declared on the highest points accumulated over the competition calendar.
There will be an ‘optional pool of ten pounds’ per entrant that is optional. The pay-out will be made on the day to those who have entered. This will be the highest weight over both sections A and B .
If all 14 pegs are entered … …I propose
1 st £60.00.
2 nd £40.00
3 rd £20.00.
The prize pot will be adjusted down, for any lower number of entrants.
Any Junior member may enter the points section , and must be accompanied by a responsible adult at their swim at all times.
***. All the established club rules relating to conduct and methods of fishing will be applied.
TO ENTER
Phone call or text to the match Secretary, from the first day of the month proceeding the match date.
Entry will be recorded and acknowledged on a first come first served basis.
I do hope our members will give this format a try and provide feedback, that can be used by the committee to evaluate its accepted use for the coming competition year.
Regards and …..’tight lines‘ to all

Lake Match Secretary.

An annual competition for a Trophy kindly donated by Ben Schlatter in remembrance of his good friend and fishing mentor Brian Euston from his early years in the Pewsey club before moving to America.
Ben returned last year for a short holiday and he visited some of his old haunts on the Pewsey sections of the canal. The club would like to thank Ben for his generous gift.
